Everywhere removes the background colour wherever it appears (simplest). Edges only removes just the background connected to the image border, so a matching area enclosed by the subject is kept. The colour is sampled from the edges within the tolerance; uncheck auto-detect to pick it.
Best for logos, icons and line-art. Fewer colours → simpler SVG; despeckle drops tiny specks. Photos trace poorly.
